Grimdark Newsletter #6

Let's get grim.

It's that time again.

I hope your September has been bleak and nihilistic in reading, but pleasant and fruitful in reality.

With one of our biggest events yet, killer indie promos, art, announcements, AMAs, and the ticking clock to the release of The Shattered Line, the Grimdarkest community on the internet is crackling with amazing things to be excited about.

Strap the fuck in, this one is going to be fun.

Grimdark Promo Highlights

Our most awesome promo goes to Thomas J Devens, one of the first members of the subreddit and an all-round good dude. Check out his video here.

Next is by another community legend and designer of the subreddit banner and profile pics - Keith. Check out his book here.

Our final top promo is by author Josh S Edwards, with Z.B.Steele commenting that his work is like a D&D campaign on acid and that he recommends it. Check it out here.

Queen of Grimdark's AMA & Bonus News

Obviously I have to talk about the Queen of Grimdark's first ever AMA on r/GrimdarkEpicFantasy.

This event was awesome. With 11,000 views so far, 60 shares, 100 upvotes, and a solid pick of questions and insightful answers, there's a lot to enjoy.

Whether you're a female indie author looking for advice from a successful author like Spark:

Or looking to score some sweet Queen-of-Grimdark collectables:

Or looking for answers about the nature of Grimdark:

This AMA has loads of valuable content and insights for fans and authors alike. I had a blast watching the questions come in, and Anna even called r/GrimdarkEpicFantasy a 'small but perfect corner of the internet'. Check it out here if you missed it somehow.

As for the bonus news, Anna reached out to me after the AMA and has sent me a bunch of postcards for the community as a thank you and some cool art for her new release. How awesome!

The Scour ARC Art

What use is all this power and authority if I can't share the spoils of my regime with you awesome people? Kidding, the only power I have is with the keyboard.

Excuse the Supernatural tattoo.

How awesome and atmospheric is that artwork? Huge shoutout to Richard Swan and The Scour (and Grimdark Magazine, I appreciate you for the ARC) for this spectacular and heart-pounding novella.

Give it a read when you can, it's a wild ride.

Upcoming AMA With Livia J Elliot

You heard it correctly!

Livia J Elliot is coming onto our community to answer your questions and raise awareness of her new novel, which I am pumped to read. If anyone knows the type of writing I do (deep descents into psychological and cosmic horror, genre-blending, deep character work), then you have an idea of what her upcoming novel may resemble.

Keep your eyes peeled in the second week of October, Spooky Season. The date announcement will be posted on r/GrimdarkEpicFantasy's official Patreon (what funds our awesome trilogy giveaways - one is ongoing now, FYI).

Big Decision + One Year Anniversary

For the past 11 and a bit months, I have spent the majority of my time building this community through transparent leadership and a clear ethos for how we should behave and treat each other.

I've spent a lot of time giving indie authors a space to get eyes on their work and promoting them whenever I could.

This, to me, feels amazing. I will forever be grateful for the opportunities and experiences I've gotten because of the community, and I will continue to promote authors and support the Grimdark ecosystem in every way I can.

There is a big decision I must make soon in regards to the community (don't be worried, I am not quitting the subreddit), but I will hold onto the delicious teaser I just dangled in front of you until our one year anniversary on October 17th 2025.

We obviously have to do a big giveaway and an event that will entice everybody to join in... more on that in the coming weeks ;)

Keep your eyes peeled.

The Shattered Line Updates

The Final End of all things is nigh, the ticking clock to the most impactful debut of 2026 is counting down with relentless precision.

You are the lovely people who subscribed to the Grimdark Newsletter to read my rambles, and now it is time to reward you with the first semi-public reveal of my professionally designed cover (no stock images or AI used) package.

Yes, I cropped out most of it. I am sorry!

My editor would murder me (metaphorically!) if I released more than this without the proper timing and copy for marketing.

You won't have to wait very long before I publicly reveal the images and completed professional cover (I couldn't be happier with what my artist did) on r/GrimdarkEpicFantasy, so just hold on!

It will be worth it.

For some VERY exciting news, a popular Grimdark author agreed to read and blurb The Shattered Line! Woohoo! I can't wait to reveal this to the world.

Finally, here's a GLOWING review from our very own Grim Mother (Safe_Aide_9928) who is a fantastic author in her own regard. I can't wait to promote her debut to the community.

That's it for September folks! Thank you for your time, stay grim and unleash hell!

I'll see you in Spooky Season.
